A BRAND NEW MUSICAL WRITTEN BY
ABBIE GOLDBERG & MASON MCDOWELL
INSPIRED BY THE 1977 SIT-IN FOR
DISABILITY RIGHTS
What is 504: The Musical?
504: The Musical was written by Abbie Goldberg and Mason McDowell at NYU’s Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program. The musical takes place during the 1977 sit-ins for disability rights. It follows a majority disabled ensemble cast and grapples with questions such as:
How does a community reimagine the world to better meet their needs?
How do social movements stay unified while navigating internal conflict?
How does fighting for justice transform our own senses of self and our relationships to others?
Watch the sizzle reel to get an overview of what 504: The Musical is about, hear artist statements from the writers and listen to some of the songs that are a part of the show.
